Just Peace Movie Night: YUMI - The Whole World

  • Date: 16 November
  • label.tijd 19:00 - 22:00
  • Location: Het Koorenhuis

On November 16th, in partnership with World's Youth for Climate Justice and Interactive Media Foundation, we present YUMI - The Whole World, a documentary about the crucial work of World's Youth for Climate Justice and the Pacific Island Students Fighting Climate Change. These young leaders are leading the case for the ICJ Advisory Opinion, a groundbreaking effort to hold countries accountable for their impact on climate change and protect vulnerable communities.

This event is part of the Just Peace Movie Nights series, a program that brings important issues of peace and justice to a wide audience through film and storytelling. After the film screening, we will engage in a discussion with experts about themes that come up before in the film.

This evening focuses on the ICJAO campaign and the transformative role of youth activism in driving change. You will learn how young advocates are using international legal frameworks to combat climate change and promote climate justice, emphasizing that the fight for a sustainable future is also a fight for human rights.

About YUMI - The Whole World

YUMI tells the inspiring story of law students like Solomon, Vishal and Romabeth, who set out from the University of the South Pacific as part of a movement to take climate change to the International Court of Justice through the United Nations to save their home islands from extinction.

The three students work their way up from a small university room to the international stage. They learn how to deal with ministers, ambassadors and commissioners, experience the frustrations of diplomacy and face the challenges of their ambitious goal: to push through a historic resolution at the United Nations that will legally define the obligations of states to address climate change.

Will their relentless motivation and the challenging countries they must overcome be enough to convince 97 UN member states to take their case to the world’s highest court?

Speakers to be announced soon.
