- Date: 10 December

- Location: The Hague Humanity Hub
For Human Rights Day, in collaboration with KUNO, we are presenting the critically acclaimed film For Sama. This event is part of the Just Peace Movie Nights series, a program that uses film and storytelling to bring important issues around peace and justice to the attention of a wide audience. After the film screening, we will engage in a discussion with experts on topics such as the context of the Syrian conflict during the shooting of the film, the current humanitarian and refugee crisis in Syria, and the political situation in the Netherlands, including cabinet plans to declare parts of Syria safe and return Syrian asylum seekers.
About For Sama
For Sama is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab's life during five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria. She falls in love, marries and gives birth to Sama, all while catastrophic conflict erupts around her. Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter and survival as Waad struggles with an impossible choice - whether to flee the city to protect her daughter's life, while leaving means giving up the fight for freedom for which she has already sacrificed so much.
Speakers to be announced soon.
Program
Doors open at 19:00, and refreshments will be available in the café. The film screening begins at 19:10 and will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. After the official program, we cordially invite attendees to stay for informal networking and drinks.
