Join The Climate Chain on Sunday 23 June 2024! Hands will be joined at 14:00 and a red line will be drawn along the Dutch coastline. A human chain will be formed all the way from Hoek van Holland to Den Helder and through into Friesland, calling for faster action against climate change.
Get a breath of fresh air on the beach, walk on the mud flats, take a refreshing dip or enjoy a drink at a beach pavilion. Put aside your surfboard, kite, beach volleyball or frisbee at 14:00 and join the longest Dutch human chain ever for 10 minutes! You want to be part of this too, right?
What is it?
The longest Dutch human chain ever: the largest connection of people in the Netherlands for more climate action. The Climate Chain is not a demonstration. It is simply a huge group of people standing side by side on the beach or on the dike, holding hands, to connect for an acceleration of policy. A majority of the Dutch people spoke out in favour of more climate policy in 2023 and demand more action from the government. With The Climate Chain, the large support is made visible....
The coastline from Hoek van Holland in South Holland to Lauwersoog in Friesland is divided into sections of one kilometre each. You can use the map on theclimatechain.nl to sign up for the compartment in North Holland where you and your family, friends or colleagues would like to stand. The map then shows for which sections enough people are already coming, and where more people are needed.
Where and when?
On Sunday 23 June at 2pm at a coastal location near you.
Taking part in The Climate Chain is both fun and important, because time is running out. The earth is warming faster and faster, with all its consequences. People, plants and animals are threatened by climate change. Despite all the good intentions, they are doing too little, while we can do much more! Dutch climate policy is insufficient to do our part to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and offers too little protection for biodiversity. Above all, more action is needed. Not words, but deeds.
