Just Peace Movie Night - BLUE CARBON

In honour of Earth Day, Just Peace in collaboration with Resilient Foundation will be hosting a Just Peace Movie Night! We will be screening the environmental documentary, “Blue Carbon.”

Directed by Nicolas Brown, this film follows Grammy Nominated DJ and environmental toxicologist, Jayda G. This film delved into the world of Blue Carbon and its capacity to tackle climate change. Emphasizing the need to listen to nature and support communities at the frontline to climate change.

The film highlights how blue carbon ecosystem remain "a hidden hero in the global discourse on climate solutions." Nonetheless, with the interest in and number of Blue Carbon offsetting schemes increasing, we wish to explore the possible climate (in)justices through our discussion. Namely, the ethics behind blue carbon credits and the possible exploitation/empowerment of frontline communities.

Just Peace Movie Nights are film screenings and discussions on important and current issues in the world of peace and justice.

Maria Correa is the VP of Marketing & Community at WaterBear, a B Corp Certified impact media network using storytelling to drive system change. Maria's career has spanned from overseeing strategy for renewable energy companies to sportswear brands across the world, both within creative agencies and the non-profit sector. Maria will enlighten us with her perspective on how stories can create real-world change and more specifically WaterBear's plans for World Ocean's Month.

🌾🌊 Xu Ben Zhang 🌊🌾

Xu Ben Zhang is the Research Program Lead at the Kelp Forest Foundation. The KFF's work aims to harness the power of giant kelp to help restore the health of the planet and their research project “Offshore Kelp Cultivation as a Carbon Sink,” has been endorsed by the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development as a Decade Action. Xu will help give an overview of the future of Kelp in the context of Blue Carbon and how this Netherlands-based foundation is contributing to carbon research.

🐠🪸Farah Obaidullah 🪸🐠

Farah Obaidullah is a long time ocean advocate, the founder of the NGO The Ocean and Us and the Women4Oceans platform as well as the editor of book: The Ocean and Us (2023), exploring all the ways our lives interact with the ocean. She has over twenty years of professional experience in the field of strategy setting, campaigning, coordination, and ocean communications. Farah has previously held the position of Senior Ocean Campaigner with Greenpeace. Farah's breadth of experience will help deepen our understanding on human relations with the ocean and a wide range of related climate (in)justices.
