Walk along historical locations such as the former Ministry of Colonies or the place where Anton de Kom did research for his book We slaves of Suriname.

History of slavery in The Hague

Many people think of the history of slavery in the Netherlands in terms of trading city Amsterdam or port city Middelburg, but The Hague played a central role in the establishment, maintenance and abolition of slavery from as early as the 17th century. Traces of this history are still visible in the streets of The Hague. Several locations remind us to this day of the slavery past and are part of this guided city walk.

Practical

• Tickets go on sale 3 months in advance.
• Starting point: on the sidewalk in front of the Hague Historical Museum. Start at 14:00; the walk lasts approximately 1 hour.
• Cost: € 6,- per person, excluding museum entrance; children 6-12 years pay € 4,- excluding museum entrance.
• Maximum 20 persons per walk.
• Guided tour is in Dutch.
• On the day remaining tickets can be bought at the box office.
