On July 1st, at Filmhuis Den Haag, we celebrate Keti Koti, the day on which we commemorate the abolition of slavery and celebrate freedom. During this special day, we will screen four impressive films that highlight the history, culture, and stories of slavery and its abolition. In addition to the films, we offer a special program including engaging discussions, musical performances, and traditional Surinamese dishes.

Evening Program:

For just 5 euros, you can freely enter and exit between films of your choice. Prior to the first screening session, you can enjoy drinks and delicious Surinamese snacks in Studio A. Further details about additional program activities will follow later.

Zaal 3:

18:00 - Trefossa Mi a no mi (2003, Ida Does and Paul van den Bos): The life story of influential Surinamese poet Trefossa. 55 minutes.

20:05 - Oema foe Sranan (1978, At van Praag): Follow four women in Suriname during the years surrounding independence. 58 minutes.

18:00 - Peace, Memories of Anton de Kom (2017, Anton de Kom): Award-winning documentary about writer and anti-colonial activist Anton de Kom. 40 minutes.

20:05 - Everyday Dignity (2023, Ida Does): Ida Does explores the work of anti-racism pioneer Philomena Essed. 75 minutes.
