Africa Life Foundation

On July 1, 1863, the Netherlands abolished slavery in its colonies. To commemorate this colonial and slavery past of The Hague, the first edition of Freedom Eve was organized by Africa Life Foundation and its cooperation partners on June 30, 2023. A day to commemorate the liberation of Africans forced into slavery in the Dutch colonies.

Stichting Africa Life and its collaborative partners believe that the abolition of slavery should not be underestimated but remembered and cherished. There are lessons to be learned from these events because there is no excuse for forcing people into slavery.
