Inholland Keti Koti Celebration
- Date: 01 July
- Location: Inholland Den Haag
Do you know exactly what Keti Koti means? Would you like to know more about it or do you feel the need to reflect on this day together? Then come to Inholland University of Applied Sciences The Hague on Friday, July 1 at 1:30 p.m. for the joint Inholland Keti Koti celebration!
During Keti Koti, the abolition of slavery is remembered and celebrated annually on July 1. Keti Koti means “broken chains,” referring to the shackles with which the enslaved were secured. After the commemoration, we celebrate freedom. Watch the video below in which our student Imani Hooi (International Creative Business) talks about what this day means to her and how she celebrates it.
While enjoying tasty Surinamese snacks, we will discuss questions related to Keti Koti at dialogue tables, topics that we are all dealing with. Such as: silence versus the courage to speak out, being yourself, how do you do that? And giving and taking space, how do you do that?
In addition to the Surinamese snacks, the band Royal Crew Tambú has also been confirmed! Tambú is the type of music and dance that originated during slavery in Curaçao and has survived all prohibitions and resistance. So come listen and celebrate freedom with us!
