On Sunday, May 26, 2024, the premiere of no less than two documentaries will take place at Museum Sophiahof.

'The Indian Dutch in America' and 'Peranakan Chinese in the Netherlands'. The makers of these documentaries are Boudie Rijkschroeff and Georgine Kwa, in collaboration with producer Rifqi Mardhani. The documentaries were made within the framework of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport's Recognition of Indian and Moluccan Netherlands grant program.

The Dutch East Indies in America

This documentary focuses on the question of Indo identity among members of the second and third generation of the Dutch East Indies in America. The foundation Asian Heritage The Netherlands is committed to making the position of Dutch people with a migration background better known. With this documentary, the foundation wants to draw attention to the double migration of the Dutch East Indies who, after their passage from Ind(ones)ia to the Netherlands, then migrated on to America.

Peranakan Chinese in the Netherlands
The second documentary is about Indonesian Chinese in the Netherlands, also called Peranakan Chinese. What were the reasons for their departure to the Netherlands? Did they find their place in Dutch society? And do they still feel Peranakan Chinese? Based on interviews with members of the first, second and third generation, answers are sought.
The Wen Ming Foundation is committed to raising awareness about the position of Chinese people in the Netherlands and to promoting the relationship between this Chinese population and other population groups in the Netherlands.

This documentary focuses on the position of Indonesian Chinese in the Netherlands and the background of their migration.
