Artists bring music as a tool for change live at Musicon.

On Wednesday 11 December, Kenyan songwriter, spoken word artist and activist Javan The Poet, will give a special concert in Musicon Den Haag. Together with musicians from The Hague and Rotterdam, he will combine Afro-hip-hop, poetry and soul in a powerful musical celebration of connection and change. Javan The Poet is in The Hague for three months as artist in residence at Artists' Safe Haven, an initiative of Justice & Peace Netherlands.

A voice for justice
Through his music and activism, he advocates for women's rights, the LGBTQIA+ community and against police brutality. He is temporarily staying in the Netherlands to continue his mission and gain new inspiration.

The concert promises to be more than entertainment: it is a call for hope and cooperation. In The Hague, Javan is working with producer Joel Thurman, John Keys and his band The Keys Collective on a new album. The evening will be complemented by performances by singer-songwriter Faraway, spoken word artist Tirza Sibelo, and The Hague-based soul band Gregg Green & Innersoul.

The future of young musicians in Kenya
Part of the proceeds from the concert will be used to set up a music centre in Kenya. This centre will offer young musicians a safe place to practice, perform and develop their creative talents. In doing so, Javan hopes not only to help individual artists, but also to inspire and empower a wider community.
