Conversations about tomorrow: three talks on our colonial past

Meanwhile, the exhibition Colonial The Hague, an unfinished past has been at the Hague Historical Museum for just under a month and a half. Starting May 31, they are organizing three evenings (May 31, June 28 and August 16) called Gesprek voor morgen (Conversation for Tomorrow) in conjunction with this exhibition, designed to offer new perspectives on colonial history.

A young generation of researchers, writers and makers offers new perspectives on our colonial history. On three different evenings they will engage with each other and the public.

Each evening has its own theme and consists of a lecture, a performance and a panel discussion between panelists and audience. On Wednesday, August 16, the second discussion will take place: "Today's taste"

The existing story is outdated and in need of an update....

This evening we celebrate the richness of flavors in our food. Food brings people together, but is also sometimes part of discussion. For example, the placement of the Indische rijsttafel on the List of Intangible Heritage of the Netherlands caused a stir. Slavery, colonization, war and migration left their traces in our kitchens. Are we aware of the political connotations surrounding our favorite dishes? And how does this affect food culture in The Hague?
