A SAFE WORKPLACE IN THE NETHERLANDS AND WORLDWIDE - BY COMBATING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE AND HARASSMENT AT WORK

  • Date: 25 June 8:45 - 10:30
  • Location: Nieuwspoort Den Haag

There is work to do: the economic participation and opportunity equality of women is under pressure. And emancipation in the Netherlands is also stagnating. Worldwide, more than 1 in 5 workers have experienced gender-based violence or harassment at work. While combating violence and intimidation can greatly improve the position of women on the labor market.

Around the world, women human rights defenders and trade unionists have been fighting for years for decent work and a safe workplace for all. Exactly 5 years ago, on June 21, 2019, the first ever international convention to combat violence and harassment at work, ILO Convention 190, was adopted. More than 39 countries have since taken the step to ratify. The Netherlands is also scheduled to do so by 2024.

At this meeting of the Gender Multiparty Initiative (Gender MPI), we will discuss with politicians, union leaders and experts how to effectively address gender-based violence in the workplace. The MPI attendees are none other than Femke Zeedijk-Raven (NSC) and Songül Mutluer (GroenLinks/PvdA). Also joining them are Kitty Jong, the vice president of FNV, among others.

What concrete opportunities exist to make the workplace safer in the Netherlands? How can we cooperate with and learn from other countries? And how can we contribute to a safe workplace beyond our borders? Of course there is plenty of room for interaction and questions from the audience.
