Filmscreening Kabul, City in the Wind

  • Date: 20 December 19:00 - 23:00
  • Location: Filmhuis Den Haag

On Tuesday, December 20 at 7 p.m., the Netherlands Atlantic Association, together with Netherlands Atlantic Youth and Movies that Matter, is organizing an evening program on Afghanistan at Filmhuis Den Haag. The event will screen a documentary Kabul, City in the Wind by Afghan director Aboozar Amini. After the film screening, there will be a discussion with experts about the film and security in present Afghanistan, with an opportunity for questions from the audience.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine will undoubtedly be the most defining international event of Joe Biden's presidency. However, another major turning point occurred in his first year: the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan and the transition to a new phase in global counterterrorism. NATO and its allies have been militarily active in Afghanistan for nearly 20 years. What is the legacy of this NATO mission? What impact did the mission have on the security and living conditions of Afghans then, and what is the state of the threat of terrorism and human rights in today's Afghanistan? What geopolitical challenges does Afghanistan face in the coming period, and what are the interests of the international community? What can international partners still do for and in Afghanistan?

The language of this film is Dutch.
