Talking about the challenges for the European Union
Can the European Union really become a geopolitical superpower, or is this aspiration mainly an expression of hubris? In Haughtiness and Impotence, Tom de Bruijn examines the challenges facing the EU, such as internal divisions, strategic dilemmas, and rising tensions with countries like Russia, China, and the US. He also discusses the implications of possible expansions into Eastern European countries such as Ukraine.
De Bruijn illuminates from historical and personal perspectives why the EU was not originally equipped for geopolitics and what obstacles must be overcome to become a credible global player. Public Administration/Government Management student Bregje den Ouden talks to Tom de Bruijn about his book Hoogmoed en onmacht and the steps Europe must take to secure its future.
