Guest Lecture from Siela Ardjosemito-Jethoe

In this guest lecture of the minor in Racism and Discrimination in the Workplace and Society, you will be taken through the history of racial theory and gain insight into how this history continues to permeate contemporary society. There is a particular focus on uncovering systemic inequality. Concepts by Kimberlé Crenshaw and others are discussed, as well as models around equality and “Sense of belonging. The concepts used will be clarified with concrete examples, and there will be plenty of room for questions and interaction.

Free admission for students and staff, as always! Registration is not required.

Siela Ardjosemito-Jethoe

Siela Ardjosemito-Jethoe is a cultural anthropologist and sociologist working on diversity and inclusion in education, culture and welfare. For more than 20 years she has been working on bringing diversity and inclusion to organizations and companies. First from welfare work and later from higher education, national and local government and her own company CtDu. She is a columnist at Sarnamihuis and Culture Press, in 2016, 2020 and 2024 the book Diversity in Society came out partly under her editorship, she collaborated on the books Superdiverse! and Unwritten Heritage and a host of articles, among others.

As an expert on Diversity, Inclusion and Equality, she believes it is important to contribute to positive culture change. Contributing to DIG from policy to practice is part of her daily way of working. To this end, she has developed numerous processes, concepts and trajectories.

She currently works as a board member of Avans Creative Innovation. From February 2025, she will assume the position of Bureau Head of Inclusion and Diversity at the City of Amsterdam.
