With Four Daughters, director Kaouther Ben Hania (The Man Who Sold His Skin, Beauty and the Dogs) has secured her second Oscar nomination. The film is a unique and poignant film that hovers between documentary and fiction.
Olfa is the mother of four girls. One day, her two oldest daughters disappear. Director Kaouther Ben Hania tells the story of the disappearance together with Olfa, her two remaining daughters and professional actors. An intimate narrative full of hope, resistance and sadness about clashing worlds and what it is to be a mother or sister. Four Daughters was nominated for the Oscar Best Documentary, and was selected for competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where the film won the Prize for Best Documentary and the Positive Cinema Award. The film was also one of the audience favorites at IFFR. Both Olfa, her daughters and the actresses take you into the family's world and leave you speechless at the end.
