Dakota Freedom Days Film Festival
- Date: 02 May
- Location: Dakota
Theater and Filmhouse Dakota will screen three special films on Thursday, May 2. The mini-film festival starts at 2:30 p.m. with the film 'Terrestrial Verses.' At 4:30 p.m. the film 'Navalny' will be shown and at 7:30 p.m. the film 'Green Border'.
'Terrestrial Verses': Nine chapters feature everyday people navigating between cultural, religious and institutionally imposed constraints in contemporary Iran. These vivid stories, both humorous and poignant, show the vitality and determination of people in adversity, and are a nuanced portrait of a complex society.
'Navalny': This documentary follows Aleksey Navalny (pictured) in the aftermath of his poisoning in August 2020, as he aggressively tries to prove who is behind his assassination attempt.
'Green Border': The treacherous forests that form the so-called 'green border' between Belarus and Poland are home to refugees trying to reach Europe via this route. Belarus is trying to undermine the EU by encouraging this border crossing, while Poland refuses to allow them in. And so the refugees end up in a cold, swampy no man's land, without food and medical care. Like pawns in a political game, the lives of activist Julia, border guard Jan and a Syrian family are intertwined.
This film program is part of the Dakota Freedom Days. For four days you are welcome in the theater at the Zuidlarenstraat in district Escamp for a varied program including films, a children's breakfast with a children's chat show, the theater performance 'Shards and Flashes', a Freedom lunch and dinner and as part of Theater na De Dam the performance 'How beautiful she was'. The week concludes with a Freedom Festival for the whole family.
Thursday, May 2 - From 2:30 p.m.
Admission: €5.00 per film or €10.00 for three films.
