Common Bonds (Online Photo and Story Exhibition)

  • Date: 07 November

"Conscious that all peoples are united by common bonds, their cultures pieced together in a shared heritage, and concerned that this delicate mosaic may be shattered at any time" – Preamble, Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court

This exhibition explores the common bonds expressed in the stories of people from all 17 situations in which the ICC has launched investigations. This exhibition also spotlights some of the first recipients of ICC reparations orders, implemented by the Trust Fund for Victims.

Although these stories come from across four continents, they have many common threads, including:

  • Home and Land – what is lost when one is displaced by conflict
  • Family and Connection – how these shape experiences during and after the conflict
  • Community Leadership and Support – how community is essential to rebuilding lives

These stories are shared to bring the people into focus, raise awareness of the crimes from which they suffered and call for global support to help survivors.

The photos and accompanying captions are for the purpose of the exhibition only. They do not represent, and are without prejudice to, the legal findings in specific cases and situations before the Court.
