Breaking Silence: Turning Pain into Power

  • Date: 24 February
  • Location: Bibliotheek Den Haag

From January 20, 2023 to February 24, 2023 you can experience an impressive photo exhibition on human resilience.

It is increasingly recognized that conflict-related sexual violence is not random or opportunistic. It is a strategy employed by armed groups in conflicts around the world for a variety of reasons. In many societies, raped women and girls are shunned and disowned because of the shame associated with sexual violence.

In this photo exhibition, the Mukwege Foundation and Rachel Corner portray the diversity, challenges and resilience of victims and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. Together, they stand united before you in this exhibition - breaking the silence and stigmas about the violence they have suffered and their struggle to rebuild their lives.

Stop by and learn more about turning their pain into strength and download a free copy of the Breaking the Silence book. You can download the free copy of the book in a QR code at the exhibition.

The Mukwege Foundation supports survivors' demands for a world where sexual violence is no longer tolerated as a weapon of war and has consequences for individual perpetrators and states.

The exhibit features bilingual commentary.

This event is part of SPREEEK, a collaboration of 20+ institutions in The Hague. Together we organise debates and dialogues on topical social issues. SPREEEK.nl shows you what's going on.
