Meeting at the Supreme Court: What does the rule of law mean to you?

From Tuesday, June 4 to Saturday, June 8, 2024, eight institutions are organizing the Week of the Rule of Law for a second time: the Senate and House of Representatives, the Council for the Judiciary, the Cabinet of the King, the Supreme Court, the Council of State, the Personal Data Authority and the Academies for Legislation and Governmental Lawyers.

Part of the program is a meeting at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, June 5, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. A meeting between people working in the judiciary, the legislature or the executive and citizens of the Netherlands. This year we will discuss the question: what does the rule of law mean to you?

The meeting will be opened by Dineke de Groot, President of the Supreme Court. She will speak on the theme: working on rules that work for you. Second speaker Tof Thissen, former director of UWV WERKBEDRIJF and now chairman of the parents' committee on child benefits, discusses the perspective of the help-seeking citizen and what the government can do. Speaker Will Tiemeijer co-wrote the WRR's research Grip, about how citizens can get a grip on their lives. After these stories, we will engage in a discussion, where Reimer Veldhuis, Landsadvocaat, will also join and give his reflections.
