Photo exhibition The Good, the Bad, and the Roma

  • Date: 09 April - 02 May
  • Location: Atrium City Hall

From April 9 to May 2, the photography exhibition The Good, the Bad and the Roma will be on display at the Atrium The Hague.

The influence of images and imaging on society is enormous. This exhibition is an invitation to reflect on that.

For more than 15 years, The Hague portrait and reportage photographer Peter van Beek hung out with the Roma and Sinti in Eastern Europe and made the magical photo book The good, the bad, the Roma about the life of the largest minority group in Europe.

For the project Once we were birds, Van Beek is creating a new photo exhibition by pairing atypical portraits of Roma and Sinti with portraits from his earlier work. In this way he shows other faces, new stories and breaks through existing stereotypes surrounding the community.

Once we were birds

This photo exhibition is part of Once we were birds. Various art displays show the history and culture of Roma and Sinti. So does the forgotten holocaust and the current challenges the community faces. It is special to work on a common creative project in this way, break stereotypes and tell a different story for once.
