Friday 23 October 2020 14:00 until 15:00

This event will entail a virtual tour of real-world environments and situations in which big data is currently used, or might be used in the future, to prevent terrorism. From border control practices, to the use by governmental authorities of facial recognition technologies in the streets; the predictive turn of security practices will become more concrete for the participants by means of this tour. This presentation will be followed by interactive activities to inform the participants on current and prospective uses of big data in the counter-terrorism context and on the relevant legal constraints. The event will be led by Asser researchers Rebecca Mignot-Mahdavi and Dr. Dimitri van den Meerssche.
